False-colour transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of a human lyphocyte cell undergoing a mitotic cell division in which 2 daughter cells with equal & identical chromosomes are produced. The cell is in anaphase stage: the cleavage of cytoplasm has begun,& the 2 chromatids of each chromosome have separated & are migrating along the spindle towards opposite poles of the cell. At end of anaphase,2 groups of identical chromosomes are clustered at opposite poles of the cell. The spindle (not visible) is formed during prophase by migration of 2 pairs of centrioles to opposite poles of the cell, which remain joined by microtubules. Mag: x5000 at 6x6cm,x2500 at 35mm | |
