Ovulation. Artwork of the female reproductive organs. An egg (or ovum) has been released from a Graafian follicle (red and yellow) in the ovary (grey, foreground). Every month an egg is released from one of the ovaries. Adjacent to each ovary is a fallopian tube (right),which carries the egg to the uterus, and in which fertilisation may occur. The uterus (pink organ in the background, cut away to show cervix and vagina) is a hollow muscular organ in which the fertilised egg implants and grows into a foetus. If the egg is unfertilized it will pass out of the uterus via the vagina. ***ALL MORAL RIGHTS ASSERTED. ALTERATION CROPPING OR ANY DEROGATORY TREATMENT FORBIDDEN *** | |
