Uterus-oviduct junction.Coloured Scanning Electron Micrograph (SEM) showing the uterus at the uterus- oviduct junction. The inner wall (endometrium) of the uterus is seen at centre with a folded honey- comb appearance at oestrus. The endometrium under- goes glandular changes during the menstrual cycle, with holes being the openings to glands. Here the uterus is narrow at the oviduct, the tube linking the uterus with the ovary and down which the egg passes. At top and bottom are outer muscle regions of the uterus cut through, showing external longitudinal and inner circular (spongy) muscle layers. Magnification: x18 at 6x7cm size.
