Bladder epithelium. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of flattened epithelial cells, which line the inside of the human urinary bladder. The cells have a lattice of tiny plaques (dots) on their surface. The bladder mucosa formed from the epithelial cells is also highly folded. Both the plaques and folds enable the urinary bladder to accommodate large changes in surface area which occur as it fills or empties. Magnification unknown | |
