Contact lens. View of a contact lens on a finger- tip prior to being placed on the eye. Contact lenses are worn directly on the eye to correct imperfect vision. They work by replacing the shape of the surface of the cornea (front part of the eye) with their own shape, which is designed to compensate for the focusing defect in the eye. They can either be soft (comfortable, but wear out quickly) or hard (longer lasting, but more uncomfortable). They have to be stored and rinsed in special cleaning solutions to prevent them carrying infections onto the surface of the eye | |
