Human eye. Artwork of a human eye in front view and in section. At right is the sclera (white),iris (blue) and pupil (black) in front view. The pupil is the hole through which light enters. Light (indicated by the horizontal band) enters through the pupil and is focused by the cornea (transparent) lying over it. In the section at left the light is then finely focused by the lens (blue, oval) and then projected onto the retina (thin yellow) at the back of the eye. The resulting image is then translated into nerve impulses which are carried to the brain by the optic nerve (yellow and blue, far left) | |
