Hard-type contact lens in situ on the cornea of the eye,separated from the highly sensitive tissue by a film of tear fluid. The lens is of the corneal microlens type,ie it covers only the cornea (other types,called haptic lenses,cover a portion of the surrounding white sclera as well). Contact lenses are used as substitutes for glasses in long & short sightedness and other errors of refraction: they may also be indicated in a protective capacity in cases of corneal disease
