The cerebral circulation. Magnetic resonance image (MRI) revealing the blood supply to a normal brain, with no defects shown. The subject was a boy aged 16 years. The suitability of MRI for imaging blood vessels is based on the absence of a signal from rapidly flowing blood. This provides for a high degree of contrast between the lumen (the interior of the blood vessel) and any surrounding tissue. Thus far (1991) MRI has been applied to non-invasive studies of the heart & great vessels,in the detection of aneurysms & aortic dissection. Unlike CT,no contrast media are needed for MRI vascular scans | |
