Human Brain. Computer-enhanced historical artwork of the blood supply to the top part of a healthy human brain. The top of the two cerebral hemispheres of the brain is seen with the eyes and face of the head at bottom of image. The brain is covered with a multitude of branching cerebral blood vessels. The cerebral hemispheres are the most highly developed part of the brain, where most conscious thought takes place. The blood vessels seen here are supplied by the carotid arteries which run up the neck and into the skull. The brain receives about 20% of the heart's output of blood.
