Myeloid white blood cells. Coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of a section through human myeloid white blood cells (leucocytes). They are undifferentiated cells with large dark nuclei (blue) and typical protuberances from the cell surface. Organelles can be seen within the cytoplasm surrounding each cell nucleus. As a precursor cell found in the bone marrow, myeloid cells give rise to platelets,as well as white blood cells that play a role in the immune system, such as monocytes, neutrophils and eosinophils.
