Blood supply to pelvis. Coloured arteriogram (X- ray) of normal human iliac arteries supplying blood to the pelvic area. The two large common iliac arteries appear dark running down, with bones of the pelvis seen behind them. These arteries have branched from the abdominal aorta (off image at top). Each common iliac artery further divides into the external iliac arteries (bottom left and right) which go to the legs, and the internal iliac arteries (centre left and right) which supply organs in the pelvic area, such as the genitals, bladder and rectum. In an arteriogram the blood vessels are injected with an opaque dye to make them visible on X-ray film | |
