Darwinian theory. Specimens of fish gathered by Charles Darwin during the famous voyage of HMS Beagle. Darwin acted as a volunteer naturalist on the voyage of the Beagle during 1831-6. His experiences on the voyage made him doubt the accepted theories of species stability. By observing the differences in closely related but geographically separated species,he came to believe in natural selection. He proposed that variations in species form arose over time, but only those variations which enhanced a species' chance of survival would be propagated. This fundamental concept was propounded in his book "The Origin of Species by Natural Selection" | |
