Birth scene from Eucharius Rosslin's Der Swangern Frawen und Hebammen Rosegarten (A Rose Garden for Pregnant Women and Midwives),published in 1513. Rosslin was a physician in Frankfurt-am-Main. The book ran to three editions in its first year & was translated into Dutch,Czech,French,Danish,Latin and English (1540). It was the most important early printed work on gynaecology and obstetrics written for women readers. The English translation was reprinted until 1676.
