Pelvic arteries. Historical illustration of the arteries and organs of a male pelvis. The arteries are coloured red and supply oxygenated blood. In the two diagrams the right common iliac artery (far right) divides into an internal (lower) and an external (upper) branch. The external iliac continues to the leg while the internal iliac supplies blood to the surrounding tissue. In the top diagram, the organs of the groin are spilling out of the body. They have been removed in the bottom diagram, which shows the arterial supply of a sectioned penis and testicle. Colour lithograph by Fairland from The Vessels of the Human Body,1837.
