Medieval venous system. Computer-enhanced folio from a 13th century book showing the blood circulation (veins) of a frog-like human figure. The written text is in latin. Figures in anatomical drawings of the time were usually placed in frog-like postures. Veins are depicted as thin lines running down the arms, legs, into the head, and criss-crossing at a central small heart. The heart lies over a larger round stomach, while a coiled intestine and leaf-like liver of the digestive system are also seen. The accuracy of this medieval anatomy is crude and schematic.
