MODEL RELEASED. Deodorising trainer. Researcher Robin Gilbert deodorising a smelly trainer in a box. Gilbert has developed this technique, which uses nitric oxide to kill the bacteria responsible for offensive odours. He is injecting citric acid into a pot holding sodium nitrite, and the ensuing chemical reaction fills the airtight box with nitric oxide gas. Gilbert took the idea from the body's defence systems. The skin naturally produces nitric oxide to kill off bacteria and prevent infection. Gilbert is a research student at St Bartholomew's Hospital,London,England | |
