Urine analysis. Diabetes test stick (Diastix) balanced on top of a urine sample. The test stick will be immersed in the sample for a specific amount of time. It will then be removed and the test stick's pads checked against a glucose chart. The two pads test for diabetes (glucose) and kidney disease. A positive reading for diabetes is given. Patients with diabetes lack the hormone insulin,which breaks down glucose in the blood. Therefore,the body has raised levels of blood glucose and the excess glucose is excreted in the urine.
