Cardiopulmonary resuscitation training. First aid cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training using a mannikin. CPR is a combination of artificial respiration,or mouth-to-mouth resuscitation (the kiss of life),and heart massage (cardiac compression). These techniques are used when the heart has stopped beating (cardiac arrest) and breathing has either stopped altogether or is only shallow. While pinching the nostrils shut, the student at far right is preparing to fill the mannikin's lungs with a deep breath of air by placing her open mouth tightly over that of the mannikin. Heart massage, carried out by the woman at centre right,is done to restart the heart | |
