MODEL RELEASED. First aid for bleeding (image 2 of 3). Trainee first aider applies a surgical dressing to the wrist of a volunteer acting as a wounded casualty. The first aider is wearing disposable rubber gloves to protect himself from possible infection from the casualty's blood. The sterile surgical dressing is placed directly over the wound and will be bandaged firmly into place. This helps to stop bleeding and allow blood clotting. The first aider also keeps the injured arm raised above the level of his heart. This slows blood flow to the injured area. (See photo numbers M910/041 and M910/043 for the other steps in the first aid procedure for this wound.) | |
