Antibiotics research. Antibiotic drugs (discs) being tested on colonies of Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria (white) being cultured on an agar growth medium in a petri dish. The exclusion zone around each disc demonstrates the effectiveness of that antibiotics. P. aeruginosa is a non-invasive and opportunistic pathogen that rarely infects healthy individuals. It infects patients with compromised immune systems,and is a major cause of hospital- acquired (nosocomal) infections. Grown on Mueller-Hinton agar,a nutrient agar suited to antibiotic tests
