Radio-immunoassay. Researcher extracting radio- actively labelled material as part of an immuno- assay test. Immunoassay is a group of techniques used in the diagnosis of infectious diseases and allergies. The surface of a plate is covered with a specific protein that will bind to the antibody or antigen whose presence in the blood is to be tested. The surface is then exposed to plasma of the blood and if the antibody under test is present,it will stick strongly to the surface. Another radioactively labelled chemical is added to the solution and will bind to the bound protein. The radioactivity level of the solution will show the presence of the antibody under test | |
