MODEL RELEASED. Stress test. A man exercises on a treadmill while a doctor watches the electrocardiograph machine monitoring his heartbeat. Electrodes taped to his chest are connected to the ECG machine on the left. This technique is used to study the effect of physical exertion on the heart. It may be used for patients who might be suffering from angina (pain in the chest) or being assessed in the weeks after a heart attack. The ECG detects the pulse of electricity that stimulates each beat of the heart. Different disorders of the heart produce tell-tale deviations from the normal ECG printout pattern | |
