Human milk powder. View of a male technician holding a glass container containing freeze-dried human milk powder. The milk is obtained from lactating females and then analysed for its nutritional quality. This is done by measuring the amount of proteins and sugars present. Normal human milk provides the ideal balance of nutrients for the human baby. If the milk is of good quality then it can then be freeze-dried and stored in a milk bank. Milk from the milk bank can then be prepared and given to a baby whose mother cannot produce her own milk.
