Bacterial infection of a man's genitals. The glans (head of the penis) has sore and inflamed areas (pink/purple) caused by a bacterial infection. The condition,called balanoposthitis,is usually due to the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. This man also has the condition called paraphimosis,which is where the foreskin (prepuce) is stuck in a retracted position behind the glans,instead of fitting over the glans. Paraphimosis can have several causes,but the swelling of the glans due to infection is a possible cause in this case. Photographed in Africa
