Prostate cancer. Gross clinical specimen of an adenoma (glandular cancer) on a prostate gland. The prostate gland is found in males at the base of the bladder, surrounding the urethra (external bladder outlet),secreting a fluid into it as part of the urethra's function as the ejaculatory duct. Prostate cancer is most common in men over the age of 65 years. The growth of the cancer can impede urination. Metastasis (spread) of the cancer to other regions of the body can cause death. Treatment may involve surgical removal of the prostate gland,as well as hormonal therapy and radiotherapy | |
