Hydrocele and undescended testis. Clinical photograph of a baby with an enlarged scrotum due to a hydrocele,an accumulation of fluid in the sac surrounding the testes. The baby's right testicle is undescended. Hydrocele may be triggered by inflammation, infection or injury to the testis. The condition is generally painless, but if the swelling becomes too large, uncomfortable or painful it is treated surgically by draining the fluid. Undescended testes are not uncommon in newborn babies, especially if they are premature. The undescended testis will usually descend of its own accord within a few months of birth | |
