Morning-after pill. This is Levonelle,the brand name of an emergency contraceptive pill that is available as an over-the-counter drug. This version of Levonelle,which uses 2 pills,has been discontinued since November 2005. It has been replaced by a double-strength,single-pill version. The first pill was taken a maximum of three days after unprotected sex,and the second pill 12 hours after that. The pills contain a high dose of the synthetic hormone levonorgestrel,which disrupts various stages of ovulation,fertilisation and pregnancy. Levonelle is manufactured by Schering Healthcare
