Oral contraceptive pill. The combined pill contains the hormones oestrogen and progesterone, which suppress ovulation. An increase in the thickness of the mucus in the cervix (neck) of the uterus occurs,as well as an altering of the lining of the uterus. Both these changes reduce the likelihood of fertilisation or implantation of a fertilised egg, should fertilisation occur. This pill is taken daily, and the days marked on the foil are a reminder of when the next pill is due to be taken | |
