Haematoma after vasectomy. Close-up of an infected scrotal haematoma one day after a vasectomy operation. A vasectomy is a method of sterilization in which the vas deferens (the excretory duct of the testis) is cut. Here, the site of the surgical incision has become infected (upper left). Pus has leaked from the wound, hardening to form a brown crust. A haematoma is an accumulation of clotted blood within the tissues resulting from a ruptured blood vessel. This has contributed to the swelling and redness of the scrotum. Treatment for the infection is with antibiotics | |
