Male condoms. Single condom removed from its sterile packaging. This male contraceptive and prophylactic consists of a latex rubber sheath which is unrolled over the erect penis prior to sexual intercourse. The device prevents sperm entering the vagina to cause pregnancy. Sperm is caught in the teat at the tip of the condom. Condoms also prevent transmission of sexually- transmitted diseases, including HIV,the virus causing AIDS. The use of condoms constitutes one of the practices of "safe sex" - sexual activity modified so as to minimise the risk of contracting venereal diseases | |
