Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for the treatment and prevention of post-menopausal osteoporosis. Here,a doctor is about to implant a pellet containing oestradiol,a female sex hormone,under the skin of a woman's abdomen. In osteoporosis,a reduction in bone density leads to an increase of fractures following minimal trauma,particularly in the neck of the femur (upper thigh),the vertebrae (which collapse) & the forearm.
