MODEL RELEASED. Hip and leg examination. A baby is examined for signs of congenital abnormalities of the hips or legs during a paediatric examination. The doctor is moving the child's legs to check for any disorders such as congenital dislocation of the hip. In this disorder the ball-like head of the thigh bone lies outside its cup-shaped socket in the pelvis. If the problem is discovered late then surgery may be necessary to correct it. Otherwise the baby must wear a special harness for several months to hold the hip in position | |
