MODEL RELEASED. Hip dislocation test. A 6-week-old baby girl is examined for signs of congenital dislocation of the hip during a routine health check. In this disorder the ball-like head of the thigh bone lies outside its cup-shaped socket in the pelvis. If the problem is discovered late then surgery may be necessary to correct it. Otherwise the baby must wear a special harness for several months to hold the hip in position. Congenital dislocation of the hip affects about 400 in every 100,000 babies. The cause is unknown | |
