Computerised dental X-ray sensor. Dentist's hand holds the sensor used in computed dental radio- graphy (CDR). CDR is a new (in 1997) X-ray technique that uses little radiation, requires no film and allows an image to be seen almost instantaneously. The sensor is covered and placed in a patient's mouth instead of normal dental film. Although larger than film its rounded edges make it more comfortable. It is connected to a microprocessor by a thin cable. X- ray images of a patient's teeth are produced on a monitor. The images can be adjusted or coloured to aid the diagnosis of dental problems.
