Acupuncture. Acupuncture needle being inserted into a man's shoulder. The sterile needle is being inserted down a plastic guide tube by gentle tapping. This is myofascial acupuncture or trigger point therapy in which needles are put into problematic muscles and their associated soft tissues. The needle relaxes the muscles, easing pain and tightness. Needles may be turned to increase stimulation. Repeated treatment is believed to aid healing by improving blood supply and nerve impulses to the damaged area. Myofascial acupuncture is based upon Western anatomical knowledge | |
