Stomach cancer treatment. Post-operative coloured X- ray of a patient's digestive system, having undergone a gastrectomy as a result of stomach cancer. The procedure was an anastomosis (Billroth I gastrectomy),which removed part of the stomach and connected the remaining portion (centre, green) to the start of the small intestine (duodenum, centre to lower left, orange). If the cancer is detected early and the gastrectomy is successful,85% of patients survive over five years. In more advanced and inoperable cases, radiotherapy and anticancer drugs are used to prolong life | |
