MODEL RELEASED. Physiotherapist treating an elderly patient for arthritis, using a hot wax bath. The patient's arthritic hand is dipped in a bath of hot wax and then encased in a plastic bag. The heat gives pain relief by increasing the blood flow to the area. When the wax has cooled, the bag is removed and the wax is peeled off and squeezed into a ball for the patient to exercise with. This technique is also used with patients recovering from broken bones | |
