MODEL RELEASED. Radiotherapy. Radiographers prepare a patient for radiotherapy. This treatment is for a tumour of the pituitary gland. The patient's head is held in place by the plastic mask, which also protects healthy cells from the radiation. The lasers form cross-hairs indicating the tumour's position in the brain. The linear accelerator (top) focuses radiation on the spot the lasers indicate. It is controlled from the handset one radiographer is holding (far right). Tumours of the pituitary gland are rare, and symptoms are mainly due to abnormal hormone production. Some may be relieved by radiotherapy | |
