MODEL RELEASED. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Adult patients in a multiplace pressure chamber, receive hyperbaric (high-pressure) oxygen therapy. The women wear collars to which oxygen hoods can be attached. In the foreground is a supervisor. The treatment of breathing pure oxygen lasts about two hours. Pressure in the chamber is 2.2 to 2.4 times atmospheric pressure, allowing rapid oxygen uptake in the body. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy, although controversial, may be used to treat cases of gas poisoning, diabetic ulcers, burns etc,for which high oxygen levels in tissues speeds the healing process.
