Hay fever drugs. Packets of over-the-counter hay fever preparations and flower petals. Hay fever drugs are usually antihistamines, but expectorants (Haymine, top right) are also available. The antihistamine spray (Livostin, left) can deliver the drug directly onto the nasal passages. Sprays act faster and with less side effects, such as drowsiness, compared to their oral equivalents. Antihistamines work by blocking the effect of the chemical histamine, which is produced by the body during an allergic reaction to pollen or dust | |
