Hair transplant surgery. Image 4 of 9. Rows of hair plugs ready for transplantation. These plugs have been prepared from strips of hairy scalp that were harvested from the back of a man's head. The patient has male pattern baldness (alopecia) on the crown of his head. Each plug contains one or more hair follicles. The plugs will be implanted on the crown by a cosmetic surgery procedure known as punch grafting. This is the most common form of hair transplant.
