Bioceramic used in bone reconstruction. This porous material is made of hydroxyapatite ceramic. It is infiltrated with precursor cells known as bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs),which develop into human bone cells. When the bioceramic segment is implanted into damaged bone, the production of bone cells from the BMSCs leads to the formation of fully functional bone tissue. The material was developed by a research team at Genoa University,Italy, headed by professor Ranieri Cancedda | |
