MODEL RELEASED. Eye surgery. Image 1 of 3. During the operation the eye is held open by a metal speculum (upper left). This is corrective laser surgery. Part of the cornea (front part of the eye) is removed,allowing access to the inner layers of the cornea. A laser is then be used to alter the shape of the cornea. The removed part of the cornea is then replaced. This process can be used to treat myopia (short-sightedness) and other focusing defects.
