Pre-operative eye examination. Opthalmologist studies the eye of a male patient in preparation for laser ophthalmic (eye) surgery. A magnifying lens is being held over his eye and his head is secured in a brace to prevent movement. Lasers have a variety of uses in ophthalmic surgery, including cauterisation of blood vessels in retinopathy (disease of the retina),and in the treatment of detached retinas. Such treatments do not usually require anaesthesia, and may be performed on an out-patient basis | |
