MODEL RELEASED. Blood pressure measurement. Nurse monitors the blood pressure of an elderly man in a hospital ward. The nurse uses an old style sphygmomanometer with its mercury column seen on the wall. An inflatable cuff (black) is placed around the patient's upper arm; the cuff is inflated exerting pressure on the brachial artery to stop blood flow in the arm. This pressure is released and the separate systolic and diastolic pressures of the pumping and relaxed heart are taken. Blood pressure,in millimetres of mercury,is an important measure of bodily health. The man is also wearing a mask which supplies oxygen | |
