Blood storage. Gloved hands packing bags of donated blood into a box. The bags contain red blood cells resuspended in an additive solution after the liquid component of the blood, the plasma, was removed. The blood is known as leucocyte depleted as its white blood cells have been removed. Donated blood is used to replace lost blood, especially in bleeding disorders such as haemophilia. The blood is labelled with its blood group (O) and Rhesus factor (positive) to enable a safe match to be made with a donor | |
