MODEL RELEASED. Home dialysis waste fluid dispo- sal. View of a home dialysis patient disposing of a bag of waste fluid. This was produced by Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD),which can be carried out by the patient at home. Dialysis fluid enters the body cavity through a catheter in the abdominal wall. Waste fluid then passes out again, into the waste bag seen here. The flow of these fluids is controlled by the patient. Dialysis is a technique which removes waste products from the blood and excess fluid from the body as a treatment for kidney failure. In CAPD,the body's own filter, the peritoneum (abdominal lining),is the exchange interface | |
