Self-examination of testis. A man feels his testis with his hands to check for lumps that could be cancerous. Cancer of the testis is rare but only regular self-examination can detect a tumour early enough to provide assurance of a cure. The entire surface of both testes is carefully felt with the fingertips. Tumours are usually firm, painless and swollen, but any lump should be considered potentially malignant until surgical exploration proves otherwise. Treatment for cancer of the testis includes removal of the affected testis, and chemotherapy and radiotherapy if there is a risk that the cancer has spread | |
