Colorectal cancer test kit. Part of a hemoccult kit used to screen for colorectal cancer. This is a faecal occult blood test (FOBT),that is a test for hidden (occult) blood in the faeces, one of the symptoms of colorectal cancer. To perform a test a patient takes 3 stool samples from 3 different days and spreads a small amount from each sample onto a card. The card is then sent to a laboratory for testing. Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers in the Western world. It is a disease of late and middle age. Risk factors include a diet high in animal fat and low in fibre, and a sedentary lifestyle. Because not all colorectal cancers bleed FOBTs can give false negative results | |
