MODEL RELEASED. Carotid angiography. Patient undergoing an angiography examination to determine blood flow in the carotid arteries of the neck. Doctors have guided a catheter to the carotid arteries, and are releasing an X-ray opaque dye into the blood. This region of the neck is then X- rayed as seen on the monitors; blood vessels appear dark. The X-ray technique of angiography is used to visualize blood vessels in order to detect aneurysms (swellings),clots,or narrowing due to atherosclerosis. The carotid arteries supply blood to the brain. Carotid angiography is conducted in patient's who may have suffered a stroke due to blockage of a carotid artery | |
